The Degradation of Heparin by Bacterial Enzymes
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Extracts of acetone powders of Flavobacterium heparinum which have been adapted to heparin catalyze a rather extensive degradation of this mucopolysaccharide. This ‘Lheparinase” activity is due to the presence in the extract of a sulfamidase, a sulfesterase, and at least one glycosidase (1, 2). Such extracts also catalyze the hydrolysis of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate. This paper compares in some detail the requirements for degradation of these three carbohydrates by acetone powder extracts of adapted and unadapted F. heparinum.

Production of Xanthanases by Paenibacillus spp.: Complete Xanthan Degradation and Possible Applications
Background: A number of microorganisms and their enzymes have been reported as xanthan depolymerizers. Paenibacillus species are well-known polysaccharide hydrolyzing bacteria. However, Paenibacillus alginolyticus and Paenibacillus sp.XD are the only species in the genus which are now known to degrade xanthan. Objectives: Complete biodegradation of the xan...
متن کاملEnzymic degradation of heparin.
A sulphamidase and a sulphoesterase were isolated from adapted cells of Flavobacterium heparinum. These enzymes were partially purified from the 'heparinases' present in the bacterial extracts and characterized. The sulphamidase has a high specificity for glucosamine N-sulphate and glucosamine 2,6-disulphate. The activity decreases sharply with increasing molecular weight ofthe substrates teste...
متن کاملThe Enzymatic Degradation of Heparin and Heparitin Sulfate I. THE FR,4CTIONATION OF A CRUDE HEPARINASE FROM FLAVOBACTERIA” ALFRED LINKER AND PETER HOVINGH
In several bacterial species enzymes have been detected which degrade uranic acid-containing polymers by an elimination mechanism rather than by hydrolysis. In such reactions a,fl double bonds are formed in the uranic acid moieties of the oligosaccharide products (l-3). One such organism, a Flavobacterium first isolated by Korn and Payza (4), produces unsaturated products from the chondroitin s...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons by Aerobic Mixed Bacterial Culture Isolated from Hydrocarbon Polluted Soils
In this study, the degradation potential of five polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by aerobic mixed bacterial cultures was investigated. Microorganisms were isolated from hydrocarbon contaminated soils of Shadegan wetland located in southwest of Iran. The degradation experiments were conducted in liquid cultures. PAH or PAHs concentration was 100 mg/L at the beginning of degradation e...
متن کاملInactivation of lipoprotein lipase by heparinase.
The ability of administered heparin to “clear” lipemic plasma has been adequately explained (2, 3) in that it induces the appearance in the plasma of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis of the triglyceride moiety of chylomicrons and &lipoproteins. This has caused a shift in emphasis from heparin to the lipase which, normally present in several tissues (4), appears to pl...
